Developing Partnerships for Successful Inclusive Campus Housing

Description: This webinar will introduce the inclusive living component of the Succeed Program at UMSL, and how it was developed. An inclusive residential program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities comes with unique support needs and requires partnerships across the University. The webinar will focus on the University partnerships needed to maintain an inclusive community which include, Residential Life, Campus Police, Health Wellness and Counseling, Student Conduct, and Student Involvement. The webinar will also highlight common concerns that each of these campus units will have and how to address these concerns in order to support students in the community. Communication between campus departments is key in providing the best supportive inclusive campus housing environment for all students.

Attendees can expect to learn the process of developing an inclusive residential life community;
how to develop key partnerships with campus departments in order to make an inclusive residential program successful; and the supports needed to house students with intellectual and developmental disabilities in an inclusive community.

Jonathan Lidgus

As Director of SUCCEED, Jonathan Lidgus is responsible for providing opportunitIes for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities to develop the skills necessary to become participating members of their community. Jonathan has been a member of the UMSL community for over 10 years and currently serves as Vice President of the UMSL Staff Association. He earned his B.A. in Biology from Augustana College in Rock Island IL, and his M. Ed. in Counseling from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
